Arranged concentrically around this central medallion are twelve crowned heraldic shields representing the various territorial claims and dignities of the House of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel, linked by elaborate foliate and acanthus scrollwork. The date 1666 appears at the top of the coin in the outer field, flanked by the mintmaster's initials H–S at the base. The legend ALLES MIT BEDACHT AETAT LXXXVIII NATA encircles the composition, recording the duke's age of 88 years. |
