A circular Latin legend surrounds the central device, reading clockwise from a cross pattée stop. The entire design is enclosed within a rope or cable border running along the coin's periphery. |

| Popis rubu | Central field features a large, facing bearded head in high relief, identified as the head of Saint John the Baptist, rendered with flowing hair and a long beard in a bold, expressive style characteristic of Maltese hammered coinage of the sixteenth century.
