Obverse description Central eight-pointed Maltese cross rendered in bold relief, with each arm of the cross bearing a symbol or letter in its field. The cross is surrounded by a dotted inner border, beyond which a circular Latin legend runs along the coin's periphery. The design is characteristic of hammered emergency coinage, with an irregular flan and somewhat crude but deliberate execution.
