Reverse description Displayed eagle with wings spread, head turned to the left, rendered in bold relief characteristic of Sicilian hammered coinage of the period. A crown surmounts the eagle's head, and the bird's talons are extended below. The circular Latin legend surrounds the central device, with the date appearing at the conclusion of the legend. A pellet border runs along the inner edge of the legend. The coin exhibits the irregular, broad flan typical of mid-sixteenth century Sicilian hammered silver.
