Additional information

Carlo III's claim to Sicily was never truly his to keep. The 1730 coinage was struck under Austrian Habsburgs who had held the island only since 1720, following the brief Savoyard interlude after Utrecht — and within three years, the 1735 Treaty of Vienna would hand Sicily to the Bourbon Charles VII, ending Habsburg rule entirely. These coins were produced across a narrow decade-long window, the full span of which is captured in the MIR range covering dies from three successive years of issue.
