| Obverse description | City arms of Deventer displaying a displayed eagle within a beaded inner circle. The surrounding legend, interrupted by pellet stops, reads VRGEN NECESS DAVEN 30 OC 78, recording the date of issue (30 October 1578) and the necessity of the siege coinage. The flan is irregular in outline, characteristic of emergency hammered issues, with the beaded border partially visible around the circumference. |
