Obverse description Draped bust of Louis XIV facing right, adorned with a large flowing periwig, struck over an earlier 4 sols of the Traitants. The portrait, engraved by Joseph Roëttiers, presents the king in a formal regal style characteristic of the late 17th century French coinage. The obverse legend in Latin encircles the effigy, with the regnal numeral and date incorporated into the inscription. A small star punctuates the end of the legend.
