| Obverse description | Central device depicts the Bolivian national arms: a tall palm tree in the field flanked by two small reclining llamas at its base, the whole representing the country's natural wealth. The design is encircled by a ring of nine six-pointed stars, one for each department of Bolivia. The peripheral legend REPUBLICA BOLIVIANA arcs across the upper portion of the coin, while the mint mark (PTS), denomination (4S), date, and assayer initials are distributed in the lower arc. The composition is typical of the neoclassical republican heraldic style employed at the Potosí Mint during the mid-nineteenth century. |
