Christian III struck this coin during the very year he consolidated power following the Count's War — a brutal civil conflict that had torn Denmark apart since 1534. The war ended with the fall of Copenhagen in July 1535 after a prolonged siege, and coinage from this mint in this year effectively documents the restoration of royal authority over a city that had been held by opposing forces only months earlier.
Billon issues of this fineness circulated hard and wore quickly. Survivors in any meaningful grade are genuinely scarce.
