Struck to commemorate the millennial celebration of Harald Fairhair's unification of Norway, held at Haraldshaugen in Haugesund in July 1872, this pattern was never approved for circulation. Carl XV died in September of that year, and the entire coinage program associated with the jubilee was shelved. The piece exists in very small numbers — Brekke catalogs it as a pattern issue, and surviving examples appear almost exclusively in institutional and advanced specialist collections.
