Jersey's four-shilling denomination is an anachronism by any measure — Britain decimalized in 1971, yet Jersey retained its own pre-decimal coinage schedule for commemorative and collector issues well into the following decades. This copper piece was struck nearly thirty years after the shilling ceased to be legal tender on the mainland, issued under the authority of the States of Jersey, which has maintained autonomous control over its coinage since 1877.
