Obverse description The obverse displays the crowned royal arms of Spain at centre, quartered with the castles of Castile and the lions of León, surmounted by an elaborate baroque crown. The mintmark MM (Mexico City) appears to the left of the shield, with the denomination numeral 8 to the right. The surrounding legend reads CAROLUS III DEI GRATIA, separated by rosette stops, in bold Roman capitals along the periphery.
