Additional information

Reval's municipal coinage operated under a peculiar dual authority — the city retained its medieval minting privileges under Swedish royal oversight, and Carl XI's minority regency government in Stockholm largely left Baltic civic mints to their own administrative rhythms. This 1670 issue predates Carl XI's assumption of personal rule in 1672, meaning it was authorized under the regency council dominated by Magnus Gabriel de la Gardie, whose fiscal mismanagement would soon trigger the reduktion that stripped the Swedish nobility of crown lands. The Rundstück denomination was specific to Reval's local monetary tradition, rooted in Lübisch reckoning rather than the Swedish riksdaler system.
