Kristina's reign produced some of the most ambitious silver coinage in Swedish history, coinciding with the kingdom's peak territorial expansion following the Peace of Westphalia in 1648 — negotiations for which were already underway in 1646. The 4 Riksdaler denomination was not everyday money; pieces of this size functioned largely as prestige instruments and payment for foreign obligations, particularly military contractors and diplomats expecting hard currency of recognizable weight.
SM#2 places this among the earliest of the Riksdaler multiples catalogued under Kristina, a series notorious for low surviving populations due to their chronic remelting into later monetary issues.
