| Reverse description | The reverse of the host Mexican 4 Reales coin features a radiant Phrygian cap set upon a staff, emitting elongated sunrays that spread across the entire field in a bold, stylized sunburst pattern. The denomination and assay data are inscribed in the lower portion of the legend along the beaded border: the denomination marker to the left, the date, mint mark, assayers' initials, and fineness indication distributed around the periphery. The centrally punched round hole, characteristic of the Costa Rican Type I emergency issue, is positioned at the center of the cap device, interrupting the radiating design. The reeded edge of the original milled Mexican host coin is clearly visible. |
