| Obverse description | Black on white note with ornate guilloche borders along all edges. A central vignette portrays a classical female bust in three-quarter view, wearing a laurel wreath, set within an oval frame flanked by large numeral '4' counters. The Banco Comercial de Santa Fé was one of several Argentine provincial banks that contracted the American Bank Note Company during the 1860s, when Buenos Aires had not yet consolidated monetary authority over the provinces. Santa Fé issuing in reales plata boliviana rather than pesos reflects the actual currency circulating in the interior at the time — Bolivian silver coinage dominated trade in the Littoral region long after independence, and denominating paper in it was a practical acknowledgment of that reality.
The ABNC's New York plates for Argentine provincial issues of this period are among their least-documented commissions. PS#1593 is rare in any condition.
