| Obverse description | Crowned royal coat of arms of Castile and León occupies the central field, displaying the quartered escutcheon with castles and lions. The mintmark (AP monogram) appears to the left of the shield and the assayer's mark to the right. The design is enclosed within a beaded border, with a partial Latin legend distributed around the periphery. Typical of New World cob (macuquina) coinage, the strike is irregular and the full legend is rarely complete on any single specimen. |
