| Reverse description | Central crowned quartered shield of the Spanish royal arms, displaying castles and lions in the four quarters with a central escutcheon bearing the fleur-de-lis of the Bourbon dynasty, surmounted by the royal crown. The shield is flanked on either side by the Pillars of Hercules, each crowned and entwined with a banner, representing the Columns of the New World. The circumferential legend HISPAN ET IND REX is disposed around the field within a beaded border, with the Mexico City mint mark (Mo), denomination (4 R), and assayers' initials (F M) also present. |
