Obverse description Draped bust of Ferdinand VII facing right, rendered in the imaginary portrait style characteristic of Lima Mint coinage of the period, as the dies were engraved without a direct likeness of the king. The king's hair is loosely tied and the truncation of the bust is unadorned. The date appears in the lower field below the bust. The encircling legend reads FERDIN. VII. DEI. GRATIA., interrupted by the bust.

Flanking the shield are the Pillars of Hercules, each surmounted by a crown, with the denomination mark 4R to the right and the assayer's initials JP to the left of the shield. The mint mark LIMAE (represented as LME or LM) appears in the field. The encircling legend HISPAN. ET IND. REX. surrounds the design.
