| Obverse description | Central field dominated by a bold cross of Jerusalem, dividing the flan into four quarters, each alternately bearing a rampant lion passant and a triple-towered castle, the traditional heraldic emblems of León and Castile. The cross is rendered in the characteristic cob (macuquina) style, with squared terminals. A partial Latin legend encircles the design, reading FERDND VI D G HISPAN ET IND REX, though strike weakness and the irregular flan typical of hammered coinage cause portions of the legend to be partially visible or off-flan. |

| Reverse description | Two crowned Pillars of Hercules flanking a crowned royal shield, with waves at the base representing the Atlantic Ocean. The denomination numeral '4' appears above the shield, while the mint mark 'L' (Lima), the assayer's initial, and the date are distributed in the quarters formed by the cross. The motto PLVS VLTRA appears on the scroll banners entwined around the pillars. The overall design is characteristic of the macuquina (cob) coinage tradition, with the irregular planchet and bold but sometimes off-center strike. |
