Obverse description Laureate and draped bust of Ferdinand VII facing right, rendered in the armored portrait style standard to late colonial Spanish American coinage. The circumferential legend reads FERDIN · VII · DEI · GRATIA, separated by dot stops, with the date appearing in the lower exergual area. A finely milled denticulated border frames the entire design.

Reverse description The royal arms of Spain, quartered with castles and lions and bearing a central escutcheon with the Bourbon fleurs-de-lis, surmounted by an imperial crown. Flanking the shield are the Pillars of Hercules, each entwined with a banner. The denomination 4R appears to the left of the left pillar, the assayer initials PJ or J to the right of the right pillar, and the mint mark PTS (Potosí) below the left pillar. The circumferential legend reads HISPAN · ET · IND · REX, separated by dot stops, with a milled denticulated border.
