Obverse description Typical macuquer (cob) type obverse displaying the crowned arms of Castile and León, with the quartered royal shield showing alternating castles and lions in relief against an irregularly shaped flan characteristic of hammered cob coinage. The mint mark and assayer's initial appear to the left of the shield, with the denomination numeral visible in the field. The surrounding legend, partially visible due to the cob format, contains the royal titles in Latin. The overall strike is typical of Lima mint cob production, with design elements variably centered on the irregular planchet.
Obverse script Latin
Obverse lettering PHILIPPVS IIII DEI GRATIA
