Superimposed on the host coin's obverse is a circular Paraguayan countermark punch depicting a seated lion supporting a Liberty cap on a staff, flanked by the date 1868, representing the 'Sello de Hacienda,' one of Paraguay's two official treasury seals. The countermark was applied during the War of the Triple Alliance period as an emergency fiscal measure. |
