Reverse description The Spanish royal coat of arms, quartered with castles and lions, is displayed centrally beneath a large ornate crown. The mintmark V (Valencia) appears to the left of the shield and the assayer mark R to the right, with the denomination 4·R· inscribed at the base. The surrounding legend reads REY DE LAS ESPAÑAS, identifying Ferdinand VII as King of the Spains. The shield is rendered in the classical Bourbon heraldic style typical of early nineteenth-century Spanish coinage.
