Obverse description Laureate and draped bust of King Carlos IV facing right, rendered in the neoclassical style characteristic of late colonial Spanish American coinage. The king's hair is tied at the nape with a ribbon, and his truncation is plainly cut. The date appears in the lower portion of the field, flanked by two pellets. The circumferential legend reads CAROLUS IIII DEI GRATIA, interrupted at the base by the date.
