Reverse description The crowned quartered arms of Spain occupy the central field, displaying the castles of Castile and the lions of León in alternating quarters, with the escutcheon of the Bourbon dynasty (the fleur-de-lis) in the center point. The royal crown surmounts the shield, and the mint mark M (for Madrid) appears to the left of the shield while the assayer's initials MF appear to the right, with the denomination numeral 4 and the R (for Reales) flanking the shield at mid-height. The circular Latin legend HISPANIARUM REX surrounds the design, reading clockwise from the upper right.
