Obverse description The Guatemalan national coat of arms occupies the central field, depicting a quetzal bird perched atop a scroll inscribed with the independence date 'LIBERTAD 15 DE SETIEMBRE DE 1821,' flanked by crossed rifles and crossed swords, all within a wreath of laurel and oak branches tied with a ribbon at the base. The fineness '0.900' appears in the lower left of the exergue and the year of issue '1894' to the lower right, with the Heaton mint mark 'H' between them along the bottom rim.
