正面描述 The obverse is executed in a fine intaglio style typical of American Bank Note Company productions. At centre, a vignette of a recumbent dog beside a strongbox serves as the primary motif, flanked by two female allegorical figures: a seated woman in period dress at lower left and a standing figure bearing wheat sheaves at lower right. The upper border carries the issuer's title 'EL BANCO ARGENTINO' in bold letterpress, with the denomination numeral '4' repeated in the four corners against an ornate guilloche underprint, and the place and date 'ROSARIO, 1° Enero, 1868' inscribed below the central vignette.

备注

The Banco Argentino was one of several provincial banks operating in Rosario during the 1860s, a period when Argentina's interior provinces were still asserting financial independence from Buenos Aires. The denomination itself — reales rather than pesos fuertes or the decimal peso — reflects a transitional moment in Argentine monetary practice, when Spanish colonial units of account were still in everyday use alongside newer nomenclature.

The American Bank Note Company printed the series in New York, which was standard practice for South American issuers seeking security printing of sufficient quality to deter forgery in markets with limited technical infrastructure. The Banco Argentino failed within a few years of issuing this series, sharply limiting total circulation.
