Obverse description The obverse is executed in a fine intaglio style typical of American Bank Note Company productions. At centre, a vignette of a recumbent dog beside a strongbox serves as the primary motif, flanked by two female allegorical figures: a seated woman in period dress at lower left and a standing figure bearing wheat sheaves at lower right. The upper border carries the issuer's title 'EL BANCO ARGENTINO' in bold letterpress, with the denomination numeral '4' repeated in the four corners against an ornate guilloche underprint, and the place and date 'ROSARIO, 1° Enero, 1868' inscribed below the central vignette.
