| Additional information |
Francis Maria II ruled Urbino under increasingly suffocating Spanish Habsburg influence, and his fifty-year reign ended not in conquest but in deliberate surrender — he ceded the duchy to Pope Urban VIII in 1624 rather than allow it to pass through uncertain succession after the death of his only son Federico Ubaldo. The billon quattrino denominations of this reign are correspondingly long-lived issues, struck across decades with minimal modification to type, which makes precise dating within the CNI range difficult without die study.
