| Obverse description | Central circle encloses the denomination numeral '4' above the word 'QUARTOS' in two lines within the field. The surrounding legend reads '4 QUARTOS EN BARCELONA' with the date at the bottom exergue. The overall design is characteristically crude, consistent with the emergency cast coinage produced during the Peninsular War period. |

| Additional information |
These copper quartos were struck under French occupation during the Peninsular War, when Napoleon had installed his brother Joseph Bonaparte on the Spanish throne. Catalonia occupied a peculiar administrative position throughout the conflict — annexed directly to France in 1812 rather than governed through Joseph's Madrid regime, making its coinage issues distinct from those of other Spanish territories during the same years.
The truncated date range reflects a mint operation interrupted repeatedly by siege, supply shortages, and shifting military control of Barcelona.
