Beschrijving voorzijde Central field occupied by the elaborate crowned cypher of Archbishop Johann Philipp von Walderdorff, composed of interlaced initials rendered in an ornate cursive monogram style beneath an archiepiscopal crown. The monogram is richly decorated with foliate and scroll embellishments characteristic of mid-18th century German ecclesiastical coinage. No peripheral legend is present; the design fills the flan to the rim. The overall style reflects the Baroque artistic tradition prevalent in the Rhenish ecclesiastical states.

The numerals and lettering are rendered in a plain upright Roman typeface without additional decorative elements. The field is otherwise unadorned, with no peripheral legend or border beading visible. The mintmaster's mark 'N. M.' (Nikolaus Mayer) appears in the lower exergual area.

Aanvullende informatie

Johann Philipp von Walderdorff governed Trier from 1756 until his death in 1768, presiding over a territory caught between French and Prussian ambitions during the Seven Years' War. The war disrupted trade and strained ecclesiastical finances across the Rhineland, and small copper issues like this one were struck to keep petty commerce functional when silver was being hoarded or commandeered.

The Archbishopric of Trier was among the last ecclesiastical states to maintain its own copper coinage before secularization swept the region decades later.
