Alexius Frederick Christian ruled Anhalt-Bernburg for nearly four decades, but his coinage output was modest and concentrated in brief windows of minting activity. This 4 Pfennige issue, produced across just two years in the early 1820s, reflects the fragmented monetary reality of the German states before Zollverein consolidation forced greater standardization — each petty principality still exercising its own minting prerogative, however small the output. The KM#78.1 designation distinguishes this from related varieties within the series.
