Obverse description Double-headed imperial eagle displayed, each head surmounted by a crown and the whole under a larger imperial crown at the top of the field. The breast of the eagle bears a heraldic shield with the arms of the Holy Roman Empire. The surrounding circular legend reads LEOP D G RO IM SEM AVG, an abbreviated reference to Emperor Leopold I, by the grace of God, Holy Roman Emperor, ever Augustus. The design is rendered in a bold, somewhat crude hammered-style relief consistent with small-denomination pattern coinage of the late seventeenth century.
