Additional information

Franz von Waldeck governed the Bishopric of Münster in the immediate aftermath of the Anabaptist kingdom — the radical theocratic commune that had seized the city in 1534 and held it until a brutal siege ended in mass executions in 1535. The small silver issues of his reign were struck into a city still physically and economically shattered. This piece belongs to the early phase of monetary reconstruction under a bishop who had personally directed the reconquest.
