Honduras struck these copper provisionals in 1862 during a period when silver coinage was chronically short throughout Central America. The Casa de la Moneda in Tegucigalpa had limited refining capacity, and copper offered a practical stopgap. KM#26 is genuinely scarce — production numbers were never large, and copper coinage of this region suffered badly from both circulation and tropical humidity.
