Obverse description Left-facing laureate and draped bust of Queen Isabella II of Spain, her hair elaborately styled with a laurel wreath and ribbon tied at the nape. The effigy is rendered in high relief with fine detail in the hair and drapery. The encircling legend reads ISABEL 2A. POR LA G· DE DIOS Y LA CONST·, referencing her reign by the Grace of God and the Constitution. The date 1859 appears in the lower exergual area, flanked by dots. The field is smooth and deeply struck, consistent with a trial or pattern piece.
