The Banco de Londres y Río de la Plata was a British-owned commercial bank established in Buenos Aires in 1862 — one of the first foreign banks to operate in Argentina. The Rosario branch issued its own notes, distinct from those of the Buenos Aires head office, during a period when provincial and private bank paper circulated freely alongside national currency. This denomination in particular was not standard across other Argentine private issuers of the period, suggesting it was calibrated to local commercial needs in the Rosario market.
