Reverse description A large, boldly struck numeral '4' occupies the centre of the field, surmounted by a finely detailed St. Edward's Crown rendered in high relief with fleurs-de-lis, crosses pattée, and jewelled arches. The encircling Latin legend BRITANNIARUM REX FID: DEF: runs around the periphery, separated by a stop at the base, with the coin denomination thus identified both by the central numeral and the surrounding royal titulature. The reverse field displays the characteristically plain, prooflike surface typical of Maundy coinage of this period, with a fine milled border.
