备注

Australian military unit messes frequently issued their own scrip during the interwar years, functioning as internal credit instruments redeemable at the mess bar or canteen. The 58th Battalion — a part-time militia unit drawn from Melbourne's northern suburbs — used these notes to manage accounts without handling cash on the premises. The arrangement was entirely informal by banking standards, backed by nothing beyond the mess committee's authority and the social pressure of the sergeants' room.

The 58th Battalion was disbanded in 1943 as part of the broader restructuring of the Second AIF, which would have ended any redemption obligation. Surviving scrip from dissolved units is rarely documented in formal numismatic literature.
