Nepal's copper coinage of this period was produced at the Kathmandu mint under the Shah dynasty, a system that operated with minimal standardization — weight and alloy consistency varied considerably from one striking to the next, which is precisely why the copper/iron composition of individual survivors differs enough to warrant separate catalog references. The RGV series remains the primary reference for these issues precisely because Western numismatic literature largely ignored Nepalese copper until the late twentieth century.
