Obverse description Armored bare-headed effigy of Prince Karl (later Karl IX) facing right, right arm raised and holding a scepter over the shoulder. Below the bust, three heraldic shields are arranged in a triangular composition: at upper left, a shield bearing the Three Crowns of Sweden; at upper right, a shield with the Folkung Lion; and behind both, a shield displaying the Arms of the House of Vasa. The royal effigy and shields are partially enclosed within an inner circle, with the numeral denomination '4' and 'ÖR' flanking the upper shields on either side. The circumferential legend runs outside the inner circle.

Obverse lettering CARO : D:G · HÆ | PRIN : SVE * 4 ÖR
(Translation: Karl hereditary prince of Sweden by the Grace of God.)
Reverse description Central field features the radiant Tetragrammaton in Hebrew characters (יהוה), representing the divine name Jehovah, set within an inner circle surrounded by radiating lines. The circumferential legend in Latin encircles the inner circle, with the date appearing at the close of the inscription. The incorporation of the Hebrew divine name reflects the strong Protestant devotional imagery prevalent in late sixteenth- and early seventeenth-century Swedish coinage.
