| Obverse description | Cast iron cash-type coin centered on a square central perforation. Four Chinese characters are arranged in the four cardinal positions around the hole, reading clockwise from the top: 寛 (Kan), 通 (tsū), 永 (ei), 寶 (hō), together forming the inscription 寛永通寶 (Kan'ei Tsūhō), denoting the era name and the word for currency. The characters are rendered in relief within a plain, unadorned field, consistent with the standard cast coinage of the late Edo period. |
