| Beschrijving voorzijde | Central square hole surrounded by four Chinese characters reading clockwise from the top: 寛, 通, 永, 寶 — the legend 寛永通寶 (Kan'ei Tsūhō, meaning 'Currency of Kan'ei') cast in relief in the field. The characters are rendered in a bold, archaic clerical script style typical of Edo-period cast coinage, with the inscription arranged one character per cardinal direction around the perforation. A plain inner rim and raised outer rim frame the design. |
