| Popis líce | Round cast copper-alloy coin with a central square hole, characteristic of Japanese Edo-period cash coinage. Four Chinese characters are disposed in cruciform arrangement around the square perforation, reading clockwise from the top: 寛 (top), 通 (right), 寶 (left), 永 (bottom), forming the legend 寛永通寶 (Kan'ei tsūhō, meaning 'Currency of Kan'ei'). The characters are rendered in relief against a flat field, enclosed within a plain raised inner rim bordering the square hole and a similarly plain outer rim. The overall style is consistent with the standard Bunsei-era casting, with the character forms displaying either the regular or the 'drooping ei' variant depending on the subtype. |
