Obverse description Round cast copper-alloy coin featuring a central square hole (punched perforation) surrounded by a raised square rim. The four-character reign inscription 寛永通寶 (Kan'ei Tsūhō) is arranged in cruciform fashion around the central aperture: 寛 (Kan) at the top, 通 (Tsū) at the right, 寶 (Hō) at the left, and 永 (Ei) at the bottom, all rendered in bold, raised Chinese-style clerical script. The characters are deeply and clearly cast in high relief against a flat, unadorned field. The broad outer rim is plain and slightly bevelled, consistent with the large-type bōsen classification.
