Obverse description Round copper-alloy cash coin featuring a central square hole flanked by four Chinese characters rendered in a fluid, cursive (草書, sōsho) script. The four characters 文久永寶 are arranged in the traditional cross pattern reading top-to-bottom, right-to-left: 文 (top), 久 (bottom), 永 (right), 寶 (left), conveying the legend 'Eternal Treasure of the Bunkyū Era.' The characters are boldly raised in relief against a flat field, enclosed within a plain inner rim surrounding the square perforation and an outer raised rim. The broad, wide rim is characteristic of the kōkaku (広郭) variety, with the rim having been trimmed to produce the ketsurin (刔輪) finishing typical of bosen master coins.
