Obverse description Round cast copper-alloy coin featuring a central square perforation framed by a raised square border. Four large Chinese characters rendered in cursive (sōsho) script are arranged in the traditional four-quadrant layout around the central hole: 文 (Bun) above, 永 (ei) to the right, 寶 (hō) to the left, and 久 (kyū) below, reading clockwise to form the era-name legend 文久永寶 (Bunkyū Eihō), meaning 'Eternal Treasure of the Bunkyū Era.' The broad, wide rim (kōkaku katsuen) is a distinguishing feature of this mother-coin (bosen) pattern. The overall style is consistent with late Edo-period cast coinage used as a casting matrix.
