| Reverse description | The reverse of this lozenge-oriented square klippe displays the Latin motto 'DEVS PROTECTOR NOSTR' (God our protector) arranged across the field in three horizontal lines, with the word 'DEVS' at the upper register, 'PROTECTOR' flanked by dot stops across the centre, and 'NOSTR' below. Three Swedish crowns — the traditional heraldic symbol of the realm — are disposed symmetrically in the field: two flanking the word 'PROTECTOR' and one between 'PROTECTOR' and 'NOSTR'. The last two digits of the regnal year appear at the lower point of the flan, here reading '71' for 1571. The design is executed in the bold, somewhat irregular style characteristic of hammered klippe coinage. |
