| Beschrijving voorzijde | Central field depicts a crowned, enthroned figure of Charlemagne facing front, holding an orb surmounted by a cross in his right hand and a sceptre in his left, seated above a heraldic eagle displayed. The composition is framed by a beaded inner circle. The surrounding legend in Latin reads MON REG SEDIS IMP VRB AQVISGR, identifying the coin as currency of the Imperial Seat and Free City of Aachen. The style is characteristic of late German hammered coinage of the mid-seventeenth century. |
